Add the first question. Truly an unbelievable feat. Gone are the shaky handheld camera work in this film. Since his extraordinary second feature, Dogtooth , Lanthimos has been notorious for a wild imagination and a sometimes aggressive form of absurdism. There was barely any dialogue, except when one character barked detailed directions at the others.

In this brutal but grimly comic piece, a despotic father keeps his adult children imprisoned at home and systematically misinformed about the outside world and the meanings of everyday words. Yorgos Lanthimos Yorgos Kakanakis. At times this film went twenty minutes without uttering a word, while this made for a quiet and strangely engaging experience.
The film is set in a small Hellenic resort, with three nameless characters.
I loved the scenes in which the characters were filming stuff. Steven, a charismatic surgeon, is forced to make an unthinkable sacrifice after his life starts to fall apart, when the behavior of a teenage boy he has taken under his wing turns sinister. Keep track of everything you watch; tell your friends.
Some lanthioms the plot even feels like the groundwork for Alpscharacters pretending to be in intimate conflicts they haven't experienced.
There is perhaps less than ten minutes of dialogue, all in Greek of course, and I got the gist of it from my dodgy Italian reading. Much of the framing os focused on kinnetta, the lens is in a funny aspect ratio and it I believe is in 35mm film.
The performances were all of a good quality, particularly so as there was so little dialogue, this was well performed in that regard. I watched this a bit after waking up, and I was sleepy, so that didn't help the experience. O viasmos tis Hlois There was nothing like that happening. The cop is desperately attracted to the latest BMW model. Filmed in the shakiest hand-held style, it featured three actors mooching around hotels and hospitals in a rundown Greek coastal town, sometimes enacting fight scenes that resembled avant-garde choreography lanhimos.

Yes No Report this. Lanthimos has acquired some notoriety for an unusual approach to rehearsals and auditions. Colman and Weisz — who both also appeared in The Lobster — are superb, which comes as no surprise. The experimental or highly stylised camera work I alluded to earlier is one of the best elements on show, jolting the film into action suddenly after a series of contemplative shots.
